Softly Spring

Softly Spring

I added two textures to this image from Texture Time. The first one was Soft Mist - blend mode Soft Light @ 100% opacity. The second one was Vintage Paper 9 - blend mode Screen @ 25% opacity, and this layer I also inverted.

The textures are free to download so why not have a play with them and see what you come up with!

Texture Tip

I've just uploaded a new texture to Texture Time and this is how I used it:

Just Grass On A Cliff Top

This was the original image:

On A Cliff Top

What a difference between the two! I love the strong vibrant colours of the original but I also equally like the soft pastel effect of the textured version above it. This is the texture I used:

Grey Sky Watercolour

This is what I did:

1. I opened the original image in Photoshop CS4 and added the texture (Layer 1) above the image.

2. I then changed the blend mode to Screen and reduced the opacity to 80%.

3. I used a layer mask to bring back a little detail in the grasses. I used a soft edge brush at around 25% opacity and flow.

4. Then I simply flattened the image and saved it. Easy!

If you try this on some of your own images you may find you need to reduce the opacity of the texture layer more than I did in my image above, it varies according to your image. You can download the texture HERE. Hope you find this helpful.

Foggy Morning

Thick fog yesterday morning left the cobwebs on my washing line covered in dew drops...

Altered Book Art Journal

This is my altered book art journal/sketchbook. I got the idea from the art journalist website. I used a hardback notebook I found in a charity shop for £1. It's vintage ~ dates back to the 1970's judging by the very "retro" cover! I thinned the book out a bit by removing some of the pages. Then I collaged all the pages from front to back using scraps of paper from old books and a little scrapbooking paper.

It's now ready to be filled with lots of interesting projects. I may gesso some of the pages, depending on what I use them for. Not sure what I'm going to put in this book yet but I'll know the right thing when it comes along!

I now have a completely unique art journal/sketchbook ~ it's one of a kind. I like that. There isn't another one exactly like it anywhere in the world! Do check out the art journalist website if you have a few minutes to spare.

Abstract Paint Brushes

A flash of abstract inspiration struck this morning! The abstract effect is created by intentional camera movement. I placed my camera on a mini tripod and used my 50 mm lens.

Artist At Work

This a sketchbook I am currently working on. I'm slowly filling it with small experimental art projects. It's very much a steep learning curve for me but I'm enjoying it very much. It's fun and very therapeutic!
